এই বইয়ের নাম রসবতী দেখে আমি কিছুটা আশ্চর্য হচ্ছেন? কারণ কোথাও তো কোনো সুরসিকা নারীচরিত্রের তেমন উল্লেখ নেই। প্রাচীনকালে দূরদর্শী নরপতিরা রাজকীয় রান্নঘরকে রসবতী বলতেন। ভারি সুন্দর নাম, ইউরোপ আমেরিকার কোনো সম্রাট অথবা সম্রাজ্ঞী রান্না ঘরের ব্যাপারে কখনও এতোটা দূরদর্শী হতে পারেননি। শুধু রসালো ফল নয়, মাঝে মাঝে শিল-নোড়াতেও রস লুকিয়ে থাকতে পারে, তা প্রমাণ করবার জন্যে এই বইয়ের লেখক বিশেষ উৎসাহী হয়েছেন। কিন্তু পাথর থেকে রস বার করতে হলে যে শিক্ষা, স্থৈর্য ও নিপুণতা প্রয়োজন তা একজন অর্ডিনারি বাঙালি গল্প লেখকের কাছে প্রত্যাশা করা অনুচিত। গলিখুঁজির শহর কলকাতা থেকে কচুরি সিঙাড়া জিলিপির মধ্য দিয়ে শ্রীমান শংকর ভারতীয় সভ্যতার মূল্যায়ন করতে চেয়েছে। বইটি পড়তে পড়তে জিভে জল আটকিয়ে রাখতে পারেন কি না দেখুন!
